Important information regarding the 2013 season

The tournament schedule will be as follows: 

  • Districts  -  February 3, 2013
  • State  -  February 23 & 24, 2013   -->   Wells Fargo Arena (Des Moines)
  • SPW State  -  TBD

Important information regarding the 2012 season

Due to the availability of Wells Fargo Arena the state wrestling tournament dates have had to be changed.  There are only a few facilities that are large enough to host this event for floor space and seating.

Therefore the tournament schedule will be as follows: 

  • Districts  -  February 5, 2012
  • State  -  February 25 & 26, 2012   -->   Wells Fargo Arena (Des Moines)
  • SPW State  -  March 3 & 4, 2012

In addition, Middle School National Duals will be held @ Simpson College - April 14 & 15, 2012.

MIDDLE SCHOOL DUALS TEAM: 7th & 8th Grades

Plans are to have up to four (4) Iowa teams for 2008.

We have been consistent place finishers in the past. We expect the teams from across the country to come looking to knock us off. This has become one of the best team events in the nation. This year the event is returning to Simpson College in Indianola, IA April 12 & 13, 2008 (weigh in on April 11).

Iowa AAU will block rooms for our teams and info will be given out at Kids State. Team applications will be given out at District Qualifiers and slots on the teams will go to highest placewinners at state in the C group.

NOTE: 2nd and 3rd placewinners who did not meet at State will be offered a challenge opportunity. Talk to the kids that have been there and they will tell you what a great event this is.

Weights for 2008: 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, and Hwt (250 max.)

Once again we will be defending a 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, & 2002 team title as national Team Champions and a 2003 silver medal in Kingsport, TN on the weekend of April 12 - 13, 2008.

This year Iowa AAU will block rooms for the team(s). Since the event is out of state and only three (3) weeks after state, teams will be determined before state so needed time off for parents can be arranged.

Here's the plan for 2008:

Team slots will be available based on the order of finish for A group wrestlers in 2007.

Spots will be given based on highest place earned in 2007 and planned weight for 2008 (i.e. a state champ at 90 in 2007 and at 95 in 2008 will get priority over a state champ at 85 in 2007 who is at 95 in 2008).

If there is still debate we will use finish at USA Kids State this year or head-to-head matches that might occur this season. Weights for 2008: 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 108, 116, 125, 135, 148, and Hwt (230 maximum). We will fill bottom two (2) weights with SPW State winner at 40 and 45 (possibly 50) in the 2nd Grade division.

This year you can also contact either Lori Abernathy at 515-961-9339 or talk to her at any local Kids Tournament. Lori has agreed to coordinate this team trip and since she is around this age group on a weekly basis during the season her help is greatly needed and appreciated. Please call early so plans can be made if we need two (2) teams. Once again, talk to past years team members to get the lowdown on this event.
