Longtime AAU Volunteer Passes
Iowa AAU is sad to announce the passing of longtime AAU volunteer, Neil Parmenter.

Neil Parmenter, 70, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2922 Beaver Ave, Des Moines IA. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, of which he was a member, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.
Neil was very active as a coach and administrator for the Amateur Athletic Union, Beaverdale Little League and Iowa District 5 Little League. He also coached for the parochial football league in Des Moines.
He was an integral part of Iowa AAU and the AAU Baseball Program, serving on the Baseball National Committee for many years including a stint as the National AAU Baseball Sports Chair from the mid-1990’s until 2006.
Neil was a lifelong Des Moines resident. He was an actuary for Principal Financial Group for 38 years, retiring in 2000. Neil was a member of the Society of Actuaries (of which he is past president), the American Academy of Actuaries, and the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, and was a Department of Treasury enrolled actuary.
Neil was also active in North High School Alumni Society and present chair of the Principal Financial Group Retirees. In his spare time he was an usher at the Iowa Events Center. He loved to travel on Actuarial (International) trips with his wife, Teresa.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Teresa; his children, Greg (Donita), of North English, Chris (Scott), of Des Moines, Kevin (Shelli), of Overland Park KS, Tony (Sarah), of Urbandale, Tim (Dana), of Johnston, Andy (Mandy), of Des Moines, Matt (Katie), of West Des Moines and John, of Des Moines. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Lucile Parmenter.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to Beaverdale Little League, Iowa Amateur Athletic Union, Holy Trinity Catholic Church or the Actuarial Foundation.

Iowa AAU Lillian Whiting Awards Banquet (Iowa AAU Outstanding Athlete Banquet) will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the HyVee Hall on 3rd street in Downtown Des Moines connected to the old Vets Auditorium and the New Wells Fargo Arena.
The banquet begins at 11:00 a.m. with the presentation of awards followed by lunch. Awards will be presented in the sports of boys basketball, girls basketball, baseball, trampoline/tumbling, gymnastics, track and field, volleyball and wrestling.
Also presented is the Vic Young Award for the Iowa Outstanding Amateur Athlete.
